Here is how to prepare Go to Canvas and do the first four assignments under Startup. These will get your machine set up for class.
On your computer make a directory (folder) for this class. You should put this folder in your home directory. On Windoze this would be
C:\Users\yourUserName
where yourUserName
is your login name for your
computer. On a mac, it looks like this.
/Users/yourUserName
In Linux, it looks like this.
/home/yourUserName
At the beginning of this class, we will discuss using command windows. You will run all of your programs out of a command window.
What all NCSSMers need to know about their computers I strongly suggest you read the file system page and the File System survival guide. These items will give you some "facts of life" that will help you to manage your computer intelligently. The advice they contain can save you many volumes of grief.
I will post hours for this appointment on my site and announce them in class. You will make a ten-minute appointment via Google Calendar for a ZOOM meeting with me. I will ask you to share your screen and to run certain tests that will tell me your PC is ready for action.
You will get 5 points for completing each of the items, and another 5 for scheduling the appointment. This can be done before class starts.
