All Classes Need to Do This
Academic Honesty Agreement You are required to accept the Academic Honesty Agreement.
Download and print the Academic Honesty Agreement
Read it and understand its terms; you are bound by them. Then do the following.
- Print your name legibly on the first page
- Sign and date the last page.
- Stick it under my office door in the Engineering and Technology Suite.
The reason for the last step: you will know the location of my office.
Install VSCode You will need a text editor for this class. VSCode is the recommended choice. If you don't have it already, a link is supplied here for you to install it. It works on Windoze, Mac, and Linux.
Your File System I strongly suggest you read the file system page and the File System survival guide. These items will give you some "facts of life" that will help you to manage your computer intelligently. You will learn a scheme for setting up your file system for life at NCSSM that will spare you much agony in exchange for a little work up front. This is how I manage my files.
As part of setting up your file system, you will make a directory (folder) for this class. You should put this folder in your home directory. On Windoze this would be
C:\Users\yourUserName
where yourUserName
is your login name for your
computer. On a mac, it looks like this.
/Users/yourUserName
In Linux, it looks like this.
/home/yourUserName
I will post hours for this appointment on my site and announce them in class. You will make a ten-minute appointment via Google Calendar for a ZOOM meeting with me. I will ask you to share your screen and to run certain tests that will tell me your PC is ready for action.
You will get 5 points for completing each of the items, and another 5 for scheduling and coming to the appointment. This can be done before class starts.
Class-Specific Materials
4240 and 4280 You will need these items in 4240.
Install the latest version of Python. Gohere for directions.
If you wish, you can obtain a CS server account and program on it. The page you went to has instructions for getting set up. You then come to me and I will create an account for you.
Install Java. All ewe knead 2 no is here
4280 About 3 or 4 weeks into the term you will need to have JavaFX installed. We will disucss this process in class and the TAs will be able to help you make it happen.
The Meeting
You will schedule this in Google Calendar for 10 minutes, on the 10s (8:40-8:50am, not 8:45-8:55am). Use the Resources menu above to access materials on using Google Calendar.
At the meeting, you will share your screen with me and I will have you run some checks to make sure your computer is ready for class. You will get 5 points in Canvas for each item successfully completed. You may also ask any question you have during this meeting.
I will post hours for these meetings on the current classes page.
